Downloads always confuse me! Where do they go?

Downloads probably end up in your Downloads folder, but you can change that! Here’s how for all popular browsers:

Chrome on Windows

  1. Click the three-line menu button at the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Click on Settings. A new tab will open.
  3. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. Click on the small link Show advanced settings… and more options will load below.
  4. Search the page (Ctrl+F) for Downloads.
  5. Choose a download location that you will remember and be able to find easily. OR check the box Ask where to save each file before downloading; this way you can choose to download the file somewhere you will easily find it every time.

 

Chrome on Mac

  1. Type Command+, OR click on the Chrome menu at the upper left corner of your screen, to the right of the  Click on Preferences. A new tab will open.

Internet Explorer

  1. Type Ctrl+J OR click on the Tools Click on View downloads, about a third of the way down the menu.
  2. Click the Options link in the lower left corner.
  3. Choose a Default download location that you will remember and be able to find easily.

 

Firefox on Windows

  1. Click the three-line menu button at the upper right corner of the screen.
  2. Click on Options.
  3. Choose a place to Save files to that you will remember and be able to find easily. OR check the box Always ask me where to save files; this way you can choose to download the file somewhere you will easily find it every time.

 

Firefox on Mac

Safari

  2. Near the bottom of the window there’s a dropdown menu for File download location.
  3. Click that menu to choose a place to save all your downloaded files you will remember and be able to find easily. OR check the box Ask for each download; this way you can choose to download the file somewhere you will easily find it every time.
